Global Disaster Relief – Targeted assistance in response to major disasters

Extreme Response History and Vision

“Extreme Response began in 1997 in reaction to the dire, urgent needs of desperately hurting people in the Quito Dump.  There was no strategic plan, just a heart-felt desire to help impoverished people get minimal nutrition, health care, and education assistance.

“Organized activities developed to meet these needs.  As volunteers and funding arrived, Extreme Response was formed to provide leadership, language translation, cultural exchange, and resource application.

“Once word spread about ER programs at the Quito Dump, urgent pleas for help poured in.  At first we received inquiries from within Ecuador, but soon they came from Central America, Africa, and other parts of the world.

“By 2000, the growing volume of humanitarian aid partnerships required ER form a board of directors and develop strategic plans.  By 2005, these partnerships required such a huge commitment that my wife and I became ER’s first full-time staff members.  We now have 16 staff but need to grow further in response to the exploding requests for aid.

“We now have more than 27 partners and projects in nine countries and we are making a difference.  Yet the lack of food, healthcare, housing, and education is truly astounding.

“Our goal is to continue partnering with local organizations that are on the front lines of fighting poverty, AIDS, food shortages, illiteracy, and homelessness.  To meet these overwhelming needs, ER is working with volunteers and donors to provide volunteer work teams, funding and expertise.

“My vision is to see ER connect the many people who want to help with those who are trying to survive in these desperate conditions.  The scope of this challenge requires me to delegate some project leadership of work teams, which I truly love, and increase the awareness of our programs to volunteers and donors in the U.S., Canada and other developed countries.”
