Pat Brien

Papua New Guinea

Wycliffe Bible Translators

After investing 33 1/2 years as part of the work in Papua New Guinea, Pat is presently on furlough in USA.  She is living in Waxhaw, North Carolina, near the JAARS Center.

When her furlough finishes, Pat will continue working on editing the Narak/English dictionary, along with her Australian co-worker, Joan Hainsworth.  The Narak people are keen to have this dictionary to 1) preserve their language, and 2) help them bridge into English, the national language.  Pat & Joan will each be working in their home countries, keeping in contact by e-mail.

When the dictionary is completed and sent off for printing, Pat and Joan will be preparing Narak materials to be published on the Web.  This includes books already published in the Narak language, and linguistic papers about the the language.  The older materials were never on computer, only typed on a typewriter, and much of what was put on computer is not in an acceptable format for the Web.  So this will take some time to complete.

Once this is done, all the Narak materials will be available to be accessed not only by Narak speakers, but also by the PNG government,  linguists, and other interested persons.
