Ecuador Day 8 – Soccer World Cup!

Today’s schedule was much different than most. We started off at the work site in the morning trying to finish our assignments as a soccer game was waiting for us before lunch. Work was hard and at some times chaotic. After cleaning all our tools and working areas we broke into an intense game of soccer. Ecuador vs. USA and of course….. we lost! The final score was 5-2 even thought at the end we have 20 players in the field. It was all in good fun and we all shook hands afterwards. After a very fast lunch provided by Pastor Ramiro, we headed for Sonya’s house for our last VBS in Ecuador. The ride was long but we had good fun during the whole trip. Sonya invites the kids from her neighborhood once or twice a week for a Christian program. We provided games, drama, songs, handcrafts and at the end a snack. The drama was difficult to perform as there was outside and the space very limited. We had around 80 kids but also some parents and grandparents sitting all around. It was a wonderful experience and it was great to see the joy that we bring to them through the word of God. Just to see the peace we can bring them is amazing!
After the VBS we went to Javier and Sonya’s house for a great dinner of fried chicken, rice, veggies and llapingachos (Ecuadorian mashed potatoes with cheese). While we were there we got to meet a group of college kids from the USA all here working with HCJB, Christian Radio Station. They were a really fun bunch of people that we got to talk with. It was cool to meet another group from the USA. We had fun singing with them on the bus too! Today was just a great day that was blessed by God. We are so thankful to God for allows us to be on this trip with this amazing group. God is great.

We are so glad you found Steve…! I wondered how Diana would take the news that the newest pet was rooming throughout the house!! LOL.

Praise God for a wonderful Saturday. An impromptu World Cup Soccer game, finishing up a great week of hard labor, and a large back yard VBS with Sonya…what could be better?

We are praying for a wonderful Sunday for all of you and a Happy Independence Day! May your remaining time together cement (can I use that word after this week….?) your friendships with each other. We are praying for a wonderful last day in Ecuador and a safe flight home. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow night!
