Special Journeys

Special Needs families worshiping together

We are a community of families that come together to worship God with the desire to offer our loved ones with special needs the opportunity to encounter the Word of God in a social setting that is supportive. We recognize that people within the special needs community can react in unusual and unpredictable ways in public settings. These expressions are a normal part of their identity. It is our hope that the informality of the worship service will help everyone to relax while hearing from the Word of God as it pertains to the special needs community.

The sermons at Special Journeys will mirror the themes that are being taught at the campuses of Woodside. It is our desire that you will continue with your normal Sunday activities through the various ministries at Woodside.

Special Journeys
Special Needs Families Worshiping Together

The purpose of this ministry is to provide an environment that combines contemporary praise and worship styles while balancing the specific individual nuances of people with special needs. This ministry recognizes that people within the special needs community often react in unusual and unpredictable ways in public settings.

While many of these behaviors may seem to be disruptive in a variety of social settings, these expressions are a normal part of their identity and will not be considered a disruption to this worship service.
The order of the service will be similar to the contemporary service offered at Woodside. The messages will mirror the themes that are being taught during the Sunday services. It is our desire that you will continue with your normal Sunday activities through the various ministries at Woodside.

We are all called and uniquely gifted by the Lord to share our faith and model faithfulness to our families. This task may seem overwhelming when dealing with the daily physical and emotional struggles that are inherent to people with disabilities. You are invited to join us as we seek to follow the Lord and provide a voice for those who often are ignored and marginalized.

It is time to offer families who have been entrusted with special people – A Spiritual Home.

“But Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’” (Luke 18:16)

Special Journeys Worship Services will be held on the last Sunday of the month at 11:30 am in room C-12 at the White Lake Campus.

If you have questions please contact Todd Gillert at 248-425-5504 or email him at tagillert@live.com.

At the Farmington Hills Campus we offer a Sunday school class for people with special needs. This class meets every Sunday at 11:00 am in room 3. The class provides a safe and welcoming environment as well as a special education approach to Bible study. Class members are also given opportunities to participate in many service projects and social activities throughout the year. For children ages 5- 17, we offer a buddy system where a volunteer is connected in a 1:1 buddy relationship with a child who has special needs. The child will then have the opportunity to enjoy a Sunday school class or activities with their peers giving parents and care givers the chance to attend worship services together.
