Woodside Bible Church

Biblical Counseling

Our intention is to offer you spiritual guidance and encouragement:

Woodside Bible Church believes that Christian growth and commitment to Jesus Christ is central to the counseling process. Foundational to all of our counseling ministries is the personal application of the Bible to the individual, couple or family in counseling.

WBC offers limited counseling through a variety of counselors and programs with a close relationship to many professional Christian counselors and agencies available for referral. For your personal need assessment, contact the Campus Pastor at 248-851-0310.

The Purpose

The purpose of Woodside Bible Church´s Celebrate Recovery ministry is to fellowship and celebrate God´s healing power in our lives through the “8 Recovery Principles.” This experience allows us to “be changed.” We open the door by sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God´s grace in solving our lives´ problems. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power – Jesus Christ, the one and only true Higher Power.

Celebrate Recovery’s Eight Recovery Principles

The Road to Recovery Based on the Beatitudes

Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable. (Step 1)
“Happy are those who know that they are spiritually poor.” (Matthew 5:3)

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover. (Step 2
“Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)

Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control. (Step 3)
“Happy are the meek.” (Matthew 5:5)

Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust. (Steps 4 and 5)
“Happy are the pure in heart.” (Matthew 5:8)

Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. (Steps 6 and 7)
“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires” (Matthew 5:6)

Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, except when to do so would harm them or others. (Steps 8 and 9)
“Happy are the merciful.” (Matthew 5:7)
“Happy are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9)

Reserve a time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will. (Steps 10 and 11)

Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and my words. (Step 12)
“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.” (Matthew 5:10)

Hurts, Habits & Hang-Ups

The Bible is the greatest book on recovery ever written. In its pages we see God set out a plan for the recovery of his broken people and creation. We meet numerous individuals whose hurting lives are restored through the wisdom and power of God. We meet the God who is waiting with arms outstretched for all of us to turn back to him, seek his will, and recover the wonderful life he has for each of us. We offer Open-Share Groups and Christ-centered 12-Step Groups based upon the Celebrate Recovery model that will help you navigate the recovery process and restore your life.

DivorceCare: Support you need. Information you can trust.

Unless you’ve been there, it’s hard to understand the hurt that comes from separation and divorce. That’s why many of your friends and family don’t fully understand what you are going through and don’t know how best to help you. We do. DivorceCare groups are led by people who have been through divorce and successfully rebuilt their lives. We understand how you feel because we’ve been in the same places. We’ll show you how to deal with the hurt caused by your separation or divorce.

DivorceCare is a nondenominational group that features biblical teaching for those recovering from divorce and separation.

GriefShare: Help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member or friend.

After the funeral, when the cards and flowers have stopped coming, most of the people around you return to their normal lives. But your grief continues and you feel alone. Often, friends and family want to help you, but don’t know how. That’s the reason for GriefShare. Our group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and have successfully rebuilt their lives. We understand how you feel because we’ve been in the same place. We will walk with you on the long path through grief toward healing and hope for the future.

GriefShare is a nondenominational group that features biblical teaching on grief and recovery topics.

Financial Recovery: God can transform both your money and your life.

Financial Recovery is a course that promises to help you overcome the financial temptations and challenges you face and help you gain a life of meaning and purpose. The MoneyLife Personal Finance Study contains powerful tools to build a plan, eliminate debt, save and invest. But that’s only the beginning of the journey. This study provides solutions for both the symptoms and the root cause of your financial problems, once and for all. Combining solid biblical teaching, powerful online tools, and hands-on-practical experiences, the MoneyLife Personal Financial Study is a 10-week journey with the potential to change your life, not just your finances.

Shelter From the Storm – Abuse Ministry

Our desire is for women to experience freedom in the Lord. Our goal is that women find hope, healing, and restoration in Christ as He sheds light on the dark and painful places of their past. Shelter is a place where women can find true restoration for their hearts, minds and souls as they cultivate an intimate walk with the Lord.

Participants work through a curriculum in a small group with discussion lead by a facilitator who has experienced healing from sexual abuse and or assault. They are encouraged to share struggles at their own pace as they learn to trust the Lord to find healing in the midst of the storm of sexual abuse/assault.

For more information, please contact Rebecca Heck at WSBShelter@gmail.com.

Shelter is a Christ-centered support group for women who have been sexually abused or assaulted before the age of 18. All participants will be interviewed prior to acceptance into the group.
