Upward Basketball and Cheerleading

Kids entering grades 1-6 Upward is more than a game! Your child will have fun learning or improving their sport-specific skills through Upward. Participation will give your child a chance to experience good sportsmanship on and off the court.
Walk-in registration will be available at our final Evaluation and Orientation on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, from 6:15pm-8:00pm. Registration will close at the end of the Evaluation and Orientation.
Registration Fees
Basketball: September 16 through November 1, $70 per player; November 2 – 13, $80 per player
Cheerleading: September 16 through November 1, $80 per cheerleader; November 2 – 13, $90 per cheerleader
Registration closes Tuesday, November 13 at the close of our Evaluation Night at 8:00pm.
· Basketball & Cheerleading Packages
- Basketball players will receive a reversible mesh jersey and an Upward T-shirt
- Cheerleaders will receive a cheerleading shirt, skirt and mock turtleneck, megaphone and hair ribbon
- Game day and year end awards
- Equal playing time
- A one-hour practice and game each week starting in January
- Awards Night – The “Highlight” of the entire season!

· Evaluation/Orientation Nights
In an attempt to draft fair and equal teams, each basketball player must be evaluated according to height, skill and assertiveness
Evaluations take approximately 20-30 minutes and are held at the Woodside gym between 6:15 pm and 8:30 pm
All players and cheerleaders need to be sized for uniforms at an Evaluation/Orientation Night.
All basketball players and cheerleaders must attend an Evaluation/Orientation Night. A player or cheerleader that cannot attend their Evaluation/Orientation Night should attend one of the other Evaluation/Orientation Nights. Families with more than one child in Upward need only attend one Evaluation/Orientation Night with all their registered children.
They will take place at the Woodside Troy Campus Gym as follows:

- One hour per week (same time each week on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday)
- Beginning week of January 7, 2013
- Practice times are 5:00PM, 6:00pm, 7:00pm & 8:00pm or 8:15pm (typically younger grades early/older grades later – 8:15pm time is Wednesday only.)
- Team devotional (approximately 5 minutes)
- Eight (8) one hour games on Saturdays
- 1st game is Saturday, January 19, 2013
- Game start times vary any time between 8:00am and 6:00pm on Saturdays.
- All games will be held at Woodside’s Troy Campus in one of our two gyms.
- No practices or games during winter break (dates yet to be determined).
- Maximum 10 players per basketball team or cheer squad
- Each player signs up as an individual – not as a group or team
- Teams are drafted after Evaluation Nights
- Most basketball leagues will have 6-10 teams per league
- Last year we had over 650 basketball players and cheerleaders

Fun season ending event schedule for Sunday, March 17th, 2013 (4:00 pm – 5:30 pm)
This is a fun afternoon of celebration and entertainment. Every player receives a gift. Last year’s gift was an Upward lunch bag. This year’s gift is… ask Jeff or Jon or Carol if you have to know!!!
